6 Americans detained for trying to send rice and Bibles to North Korea

Americans were apprehended across the bay from North Korea on Gwanghwa Island, before throwing 1600 bottles into the sea. Hopes were the bottles would float toward North Korean shores with the tide. Americans were being investigated according to the law on the management of safety and disasters.

Yonhap news, however said the police did not find the need to further detain the individuals and released them.

This statement is curious, because last year, South Korea’s supreme court ruled that sending Balloons to North Korea with anti-North Korean leaflets, was protected free speech.

It’s likely that the Americans were quietly released without charge, because of the previous supreme court ruling. The detainment of the Americans was widely publicized, however their release without charge was barely found in the news.

The end result is that the current president succeeded in stopping Bibles from being sent, while sending a message of Good Will to the North Korean government, with whom he intends to improve relations, while equally not challenging the constitutional decision, nor offending the United States.

Pray that efforts to get God’s Word into North Korea, would continue through all means possible.
